When Rivals Became Partners
When Rivals Became Partners
How Data Forged an Unlikely Alliance for Clean Water
In a water-scarce region, three neighboring communities were
in constant conflict over access to a single aquifer. A government agency was
stuck in the middle, unable to negotiate a solution. They brought in CCL to
break the impasse.
We knew traditional facilitation would lead to more arguing.
So, we started not with a meeting, but with a joint fact-finding
mission. We formed a team with technical experts and representatives from
each community to collectively gather data on the aquifer's recharge rates,
usage patterns, and contamination risks.
The process transformed the dynamic. The shared data became
the neutral arbiter. It was no longer "your word against mine," but
"what is the evidence telling us?" The communities, once rivals, were
now collaborating on a shared problem with a common set of facts. Our role was
to facilitate this process and translate their findings into a sustainable
water-sharing agreement.
The outcome was a co-created management plan that everyone
could trust because they helped build it. This is the core of CCL's mission: we
don't just provide answers; we create the collaborative frameworks and generate
the evidence that allows communities to find their own sustainable solutions.
